MCA will be providing Get Out the Vote trainings, Notary Ballot Chasing trainings, and Candidate trainings in Auburn, Bangor and Portland over the next month leading up to the June 9 primary election.
These trainings are designed to meet you where you are and help you take the next step, whether that’s running for office, supporting a cause, or becoming more effective at the grassroots level.
GOTV Strategy Training
This training equips candidates and activists with proven strategies to plan and execute a successful Get Out the Vote operation. Participants learn how to calculate their target vote number, identify and build a targeted voter list, and mobilize committed supporters to turn out on Election Day. The training also covers Election Day Operations and best practices used by winning campaigns to increase voter turnout and electoral success.
Notary Ballot Chasing Training
This training equips activists with the legal tools and practical skills to significantly increase voter participation through notary certification and ballot chasing. No prior notary experience is required to attend, and there is no expectation that participants become notaries afterward—this training is open to everyone who wants to learn and get involved.
In the first half of the training, participants are guided step-by-step through the Maine State Notary open-book exam. Attendees leave with a completed notary application. The second half of the training focuses on ballot chasing, a lawful and highly effective method to ensure absentee ballots are requested, completed, and returned. Participants learn how to work with low-propensity voters—registered voters who rarely turn out—to help them navigate the absentee voting process from start to finish.
This training teaches a proven strategy that has won close elections by increasing turnout where it matters most. By combining notary certification with ballot-chasing tactics, participants leave prepared to become high-impact activists who don’t just support campaigns—but help deliver victories.
A one-time $50.00 state fee is required to become a notary (Not due at time of training).
Candidate & Campaign Management Training
This is a hands-on training designed for candidates and campaign managers who want to run a clear, disciplined, and winning campaign. Participants will learn how to set realistic goals, build a campaign calendar and timeline, identify the voters they need to reach, and make smart choices about where to spend limited time, money, and volunteer energy. We’ll cover how to prioritize voter contact, fundraising, and events so your campaign stays focused and on track. By the end of the training, attendees will leave with a practical campaign roadmap they can use to guide decisions from launch through Election Day.
